Travis’ Story
Travis reported that Mimi’s House helped him to be more social, have less fears, and manage how he reacts when it came to anger
Mimi’s House is here for both children and families. Travis came to Mimi’s House experiencing difficulties with social cues and peer friendships at school, a diagnosis of ADHD, and a home life that was a complex combination of physical, mental, relational, and financial challenges.
In his words, Travis said “Home doesn’t really feel like home.” He was also at risk of disengaging with his learning: Travis was anxious and often didn’t want to go to school. Connecting with his parents revealed a family that was in the pain of a marital breakdown.
Travis and his dad ended up living out of their car for a day – a potentially ongoing crisis. Dad shared that he was falling through the cracks when it came to available services – he was doing everything he could, and waiting lists were long.
Mimi’s House were able to organise a night of temporary accommodation, for which they were very grateful; Travis said that he felt safe – something that meant a lot to Dad especially.
“I honestly can’t thank you enough. God bless you all. You guys are genuine & genuinely interested in what's going on with me & Travis.”
Fortunately, soon after, they were able to obtain permanent housing. Mimi’s House were able to lend a hand to help move them in, as Dad didn’t have anyone to help him.
Dad said, “I honestly can’t thank you enough. God bless you all. You guys are genuine & genuinely interested in what's going on with me & Travis. I think you guys are incredible, to be honest.”
“They help me grow, e through hard times.”
